BREAKING NEWS PRESS RELEASE
KEEPING MUMBLES CLEAN

CLEANING UP MUMBLES
Mumbles Community Council (the Council) has entered into a contract with
the City & County of Swansea Council (the City Council) for a dedicated
street cleaner with appropriate equipment to be assigned to the Mumbles
area on a 5 days a week, 52 weeks per year basis.
The cleaner starts work on 6th October and will operate from a base in the
Quarry car park, initially spending one week in rotation in each of the
Mumbles Wards in the order of Mayals, Newton, West Cross, and
Oystermouth. He will be supported with the necessary tools and equipment
including a mechanical 414 road sweeper, a “Glutton” electric vacuum
machine, a power blower, hand cart fitted with brushes, shovels, hoes etc.,
van transport and necessary safety and sanitary equipment.
The purpose is to provide a cleaning resource over and above that currently
routinely provided by the City Council within the Mumbles residential and
commercial area. To deal with litter, weed growth, fly tipping and the like, in
streets, public areas and private land accessed by the public.
Residents are requested to contact their Ward Community Councillors with
details of litter problems for attention via the contract. The value of the
contract for one year is £12,000.
Roger Beynon, Chairman of Mumbles Community Council, states that the
Council hope that this contract will help in reducing the significant number of
complaints the Council regularly receive regarding litter throughout Mumbles.
At the same time the Council will be promoting a litter awareness/reduction
campaign via the general public and shopkeepers, especially at outlets such
as fast food shops that generate waste. He stresses that this initiative is a
direct response to public concerns and is in addition to, and not instead of,
the City Council’s current street cleaning routines.

the very busy road outside Oystermouth Primary School. Newton Road. He

MUMBLES IN BLOOM 2009
You will have seen in the South Wales Evening
Post (Thursday 16-10-08) that Mumbles Community
Council will not be featuring this event during
2009.
The Chair of the Development Committee, Lynda Tyler-Lloyd says that she
regrets that this decision had to be taken by the Community Council but it was
because of the lack of support and enthusiasm from the gardeners of
Mumbles. Only 29 entries were received after some 200 entry form were
delivered locally and many posters were placed in shops in the village.
Lynda would like to thank all those who entered and for the support of some
local businesses. If you feel that this is an event that should be run in
the future please contact Lynda via the office 01792-363598 and that this
event may return if there is sufficient support in the future. or email -
council@mumbles.gov.uk

(Note: Will the 2008 winners please arrange to return the Award Shields next Sept.09 to the MCC office in Walters Cres.Mumbles)
There are photos and CDs available in the office, for a small charge, Monies collected will be donated to a Charity of our chose. Contact The Clerk on 363598 for details.
MUMBLES POLICE FORCE
The Mumbles Community area has a new Inspector of Police. October 2008
saw the appointment of Inspector Bryan Heard who was transferred from the
Penlan area to Mumbles to replace Inspector Rhodri Williams who has
moved in the other direction.
Also returning to duty in Mumbles is Community Police Sergeant, Clare Parry.
We feel that it is essential that all criminal activities be reported to the police,
including youth annoyance, illegal use of motor scooters, speeding motor
vehicles and disruptive neighbours.
Currently PACT meetings are held at the Mumbles Conservative Club,
Mumbles Road, Southend and the next meeting will be held on Wednesday
12th November 2008 commencing at 7.00p.m.
It is hoped that meetings for the West Cross and Mayals areas will be held
locally, when a suitable venue is found.
