The plight of the empty bath in Mary Twill Lane.Langland
It conjures up all sorts of ideas of how to dispose of such an
unwanted item. Perhaps Mr. Derek Williams might consider using it
as a fish pond in his garden or an emergency water tank for when
a drought is upon us. If not perhaps the next Mumbles raft race
organisers could use it for a dash across the Bay.
Well the best known way to my recollection, is leave it out on the
pavement and within 12 hours it will disappear via a scrap metal
dealer. (once called rag and bone men). Best of luck Derek
FTRMETRO
THE LATEST NEWS
The ftrmetro (Bendybus) will start service in the Spring of 2009 (so
we are reliably informed in the latest brochure) and will link
Morriston Hospital to the City centre, the Civic Centre, Swansea
University and then on to Singleton Hospital. The brochure also
states that " As well as using the state-of-the-art, stylish and
comfortable vehicles ftrmetro will feature extensive priority
measures along the route. These measures will ensure a fast and
frequent service to get you to your destination without delay".
Q. will existing bus routes be affected by ftrmetro?
Services running to the west of Singleton Hospital (1, 2, 2a, 2b, 3,
3a,14 and 14a) will be unaffected. Service 4 to Morriston Hospital
will be replaced by the ftrmetro.
Q. What is happening to the Quadrant bus station?
Funding for the long awaited renewal is now in place. Construction
work will start early in 2009 and will take 18 months (approx).
During this time, bus services will be relocated to stopping points
elsewhere in the City centre. ftrmetro will use the new stations
contructed in West Way, near the Grand Theatre.
Further details can be obtained from web sites www.swansea.gov.uk
or www.ftrmetro.com or email swanseametro@abertawe.gov.uk
Comment - You will no longer pay the driver but be met by 'Customer Service

MUMBLES TWINNING ASSOCIATION
and Mumbles Community Council
VISIT TO KINSALE OCTOBER 17TH-21ST 2008
Roger Beynon, Chairman of Mumbles Community Council, accompanied a
party of Mumbles Twinning Association members on their recent trip to
Kinsale, in County Cork, Ireland. Mumbles and Kinsale have been twinned
since 1992, and Roger was responding to a formal invitation from Kinsale
Town Council.
Roger reports that as predictable Irish hospitality was overwhelming, from our
arrival late on 17th to our departure on the 21st. Saturday morning was spent
visiting Blarney Castle where the uninitiated were able to kiss the Blarney
stone and ensure their future ability for persuasive argument. After an
afternoon of watching Heineken Rugby TV coverage in the bar of our host
Hotel, The White House, the visiting delegation were entertained to dinner at
the Blue Haven restaurant, one of Kinsales many gourmet eateries.
Sunday morning members of the Mumbles party attended morning service at
St. Multose, and were greeted by the Rector the Rev’d David Williams.
Sunday evening the Kinsale Town Council hosted a dinner at the White
House hotel for the Mumbles party, attended by the Mayor of Kinsale, Cllr.
Dermot Collins, and other Kinsale councillors and partners, together with
John Twomey, chairman, and Ted McNamara of the Kinsale Twinning
Association. The Mayor and Roger Beynon made speeches, and there was
an exchange of gifts on behalf of the respective Councils. Roger presented
Kinsale with a specially commissioned plate from Mumbles Pottery and
received a ‘Strength through Unity’ artwork, which has been hung in Mumbles
Community Council offices.
Roger reports that there is great enthusiasm in Kinsale for the continuation
and development of the Mumbles/Kinsale twinning link. Many in Kinsale
remember the early years of the twinning when football teams and choirs
exchanged visits. There is also much local support for the reinstatement of the
Swansea to Cork Ferry, which local industry and hauliers in West Cork
believe would be very beneficial for the local Cork economy.
Kinsale is also twinned with Antibes in France and Rhode Island in USA so
Mumbles has to strive to keep up with such notable twins.
A leisurely drive back from Kinsale to Rosslaire, taking in a tour of the
Famine Ship, moored at New Ross, and ferry to Fishguard completed a very
happy few days in Ireland.
