News report :-

well if you missed this great concert, sorry but as a musical extravaganza this would take a lot of beating!

The Dunvant Male Choir (formed in 1895), Conducted by Jonathan Rogers, were in fine voice and presented a varied programme of classical and modern songs.

The Soloist was Rhys Morris, accompanied by Hwyel Evans, and was without doubt the star of the evening.

Additional entertainment was highlighted by The Constellation Big Band, Musical Director Leo O'Shea with vocals by that talented singer Paula King. They presented a variety of music from 'the Old Days'1939-1945 with the music of Glenn Miller and other famous bands of that era.

Mumbles Community Council Comment

Hurrah! At last a day most of us thought we would never see. The bus station is about to be redeveloped and from 14th June the old station will be closed for the works. In the May edition of the Swansea Leader it reports it will be about 15 months to completion. Let’s hope that doesn’t extend into the time it took to get to this stage. Enough of the cynicism, it is to be celebrated but what happens in the meantime?

There will be temporary bus stops situated close to city centre and there will be leaflets, posters and pocket maps to help all bus users to find the right bus stop from June 14th. There will also be bus marshals in the city centre to help passengers to the right places.

The Mumbles services of 2, 2b, 3a and 37 will have their own special stops where the services to and from Swansea will begin and terminate. The 2 and 2b will have a dedicated stop on Oxford Street opposite Grand Theatre car park. The 3a stop will also be on Oxford Street a little further on just before junction with Plymouth Street while the 37 bus stop will be off the Kingsway in Christina Street just past the YMCA.

Undoubtedly, the system will take a little time to settle in and there is no mention of facilities for the disabled. Just remember to take your umbrella and walking shoes as there will be very little cover at the stops followed by a short walk to the centre. Still it should all be worth it all for a stunning new 20 bay bus station with modern facilities that will benefit residents and visitors alike, bring it on!

Subject: Media opportunity - Otesha Project UK - Cycle tour coming to
Mumbles July.5 Sun/6 Mon

Hello,

I thought you might be interested to hear about a group of young volunteers
who will be cycling through Mumbles from Sunday 5 to Monday 6 July.

They're all part of the Wild West cycle tour, which will spend 6 weeks this
summer travelling through Wales. The cycle tour is one of 3 tours being run
this summer by Otesha Project UK, a youth-led charity that encourages others
to create social and environmental change through their everyday actions.
Otesha members provide simple and creative ways to create a cleaner,
greener, fairer world.

Please find attached a press pack with more information. Tour members will
be available for interview while in town. If you're interested in featuring
them on your radio, in your paper and your web site, please contact Hanna
Thomas, Cycle Tours Coordinator, at 0207 702 4137 or hanna@otesha.org.uk.

More about the cycle tours

Every summer, teams of amazing and adventurous young people saddle up and
cycle around the UK, stopping at schools, youth clubs and festivals along
the way to inspire others to live a bit more sustainably. The teams perform
the award-winning Morning Choices play and run hands-on workshops about
subjects like ethical fashion or bike maintenance, challenging the thousands
of people they meet along the way to do something in their own lives to
create positive change. While on the road, tour members live as low-impact
as possible, buying local food, traveling carbon-free by bike, and
obsessively recycling, composting and water-saving as they go!

The Mumbles Mostly Jazz & Blues Festival was yet another great event. The Marquee at South End Gardens was indeed a super place to see and hear the musicians, with liquid refreshment and food all at hand.

AGE CONCERN - Ten tips to avoid being scammed

Here are some things to remember if you get unwanted mail, telephone calls or emails that request money or personal information - they may be scams.

1. If if seems too good to be true it generally is

2. If you haven't entered a competition you can't have won a large cash prize

3. People who are genuine do not ask for money in advance

4. If you are unsure, or it doesn't feel right don't respond - throw it away, hang up the phone, don't reply to texts or emails

5. Nothing bad will happen if you don't send a so called psychic any money. They send the same letter to thousands of people telling them the same thing

6. Offers of large amounts of money from abroad are only made to get you to send them your bank and personal details so that they can steal from your account

7. Speak to a friend, relative, local Age Concern or Consumer Direct if you are concerned about mail you have received,

8.If you are being presurised to buy on the telephone it is okay to say NO and put down the 'phone

9. Responding to one item of scam mail can and usually does result in up to a hundred items of this kind of mail being sent daily

10. Reduce the scams you receive - join the telephone preference service and the mailing preference service (listed in your telephone book)
