Mumbles In Bloom Competition 2008
Congratulations to all winners and runners up who entered the Mumbles In Bloom
competition this year and contributed to its success.
The Judges, Mr. Ian Scott and Mr. Rob Harris were impressed with the standard of
entries and made the comment that the gardens and floral displays reflected the
amount of hard work it takes to reach such a high standard. This year we were
pleased to receive several “First Time Entries” and two extra entries for “Displays
Outside Cottages”. It has been a joy to drive round the Mumbles Community and
see such glorious flower displays.
One sad note; Mr. Dyke, from Southlands Drive, entered the competition and died
a few weeks later. Mr. Dyke has been a winner for several years and the Mumbles
Community Council together with the judges wish to pay tribute to his efforts in
contributing to the success of Mumbles in Bloom.
This years winners are as follows: Mr&Mrs M. Church, Clifton Terrace;(Joint)
Mr.E.Goulding, Sycamore Rd (Joint), Mr&Mrs E. Davies, The Old Coach House;
Ms Ellerton, Park Street; Mrs S Saunders West Cross Inn; Mrs J Gough, Mill
Gardens Residents Association; Miss S Evans, Whitestone School; Jan & Len
Clarke (The Coast House).
This year a special award will be given to Mr. Brian Morgan who solely looks after
the Llanfair House gardens and maintains it to such a high standard.
We look forward to seeing you all at the prize giving in September.
Best wishes to you all from
Community Councillor Linda Tyler-Lloyd
Chairman of the Development Committee (photos to follow)

Mumbles Village Diary
SAVE OUR POST OFFICES!
I see in the Eve. Post 'Have your say' 2 July 08 a letter from
Mrs. E. Jones, Summerland Lane, Newton, Mumbles that Newton has not
had a Post Office for over a year. As she is 86 years old, suffering from
heart trouble and with knees failing this lady has to pay for a taxi costing
£3.00 to get to Mumbles and a further £3.00 for the return journey as
she is unable to to walk to the bus stop from her home. She points out that
this is a lot pay out of her pension and as the old P.O. shop is still empty,
could it be reopened?
Do you have any views on this subject?

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE REPLACE THE OLD
ROYAL BRITISH LEGION BUILDING ON NEWTON ROAD?
THIS IS AN ARTISTS IMPRESSION OF THE PROPOSED SITE
DEVELOPMENT. THE PLANS HAVE BEEN REVIEWED BY MUMBLES
COMMUNITY COUNCIL AND AT THEIR LAST FULL COUNCIL
MEETING ON THE 8TH JULY THE PLANS WERE PASSED WITH NO
OBJECTIONS TO THE CITY COUNCIL PLANNING DEPARTMENT
For full account see South Wales Evening Post, 9th July 08 or contact Dawsons, Estate Agents for more details.
Letter sent to Cllr. Brian Arthur, MCC Gov'r to Mayals Primary School
DOES IT STICK IN YOUR THROAT?
I see in the Evening Post Fri. 25th July that protesters (five in all), were
outside the Mumbles Fine Wines store, Mumbles demanding that the shop
ceased selling liver pate (foie gras)! Mr. John Robertsquite rightly, I think,
said that it was up to the owner to decide if he wanted to keep selling this
product.
Your comments please. We look forward to hearing from you.
