MUMBLES COMMUNITY COUNCIL WISH YOU ALL A
HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR 2009!
HOMELESS GRAND-DAD MAKES A HOME IN MUMBLES
Who would be small-minded enough to report this 'gentle' man to the authorities? See the report by Richard Youle, Mumbles Reporter, in thePOST Mon. 29th December. It has been reported that Mr. Graham Michael (Formerly from Cardiff) has been sleeping rough at the Bowling Green in Mumbles Gardens. Local residents and shopkeepers have been looking after him by suppling him with clothing, books and food. But it is understood that a complaint has been made to Swansea City Council about this 61 year old grand-father and he will be moved on.
The City Councillor for Oystermouth, Cllr. A. Colburn is reported to have said "He is keeping vandals away through his presence, but on the other hand the council cannot sanction someone living in those conditions and partially in public recreation facilities. He is highly thought of by those who have met him but sadly his being allowed to remain there seems highly unlikely. Cllr. Colburn said it would not be the case of "him being thrown out and left to fend for himself. It would be the responsibility of the council to to find this gentleman more suitable accommodation".

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD IDEA – CALL IT ICE!
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone, but wouldn't know who to call.
Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored, but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones arecarried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).
The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'.
Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. "ICE Wife", "ICE Son", "ICE Daughter" "ICE Husband " Etc,
PLEASE PASS THIS AROUND AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE AS THIS CAN HELP IN AN EMERGENCY.
SOME GOOD NEWS FOR WEST CROSS!
The City & County of Swansea have given notice that they intend to place a Pelican Crossing on Fairwood Road, at a point 40 metres north west of its junction with Linden Ave. Let's hope this pleases the residents of FAIRWOOD RD. WEST CROSS ( notice in Evening Post 16th Jan 09)
AT LAST THE NEW LEISURE COMPLEX IS DUE TO GO AHEAD AT BLACKPILL
See the report by Evening Post Reporter, Richard Youle - Fri. 16th January 09)
The report tells us that planning chiefs have agreed to design alterations made to the planning application made and agreed in 2000. There have been objections made by various local residents associations to the updated scheme. WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS? Please send us an email or letter with your comments
MORE CONTROVERSY AT BLACKPILL!
It is reported (again in the Evening Post 16th Jan 09) by Reporter, Alex Brown, that "controversial plans to build 54 homes on playing fields of former Emmanuel School" have been voted in favour of building, by City Councillors. Bryant Homes had originally applied to build nine detached houses and 45 apartments on this site."Residents have been worried about development of the site for sometime due to the high volume of traffice in the area, but are more concerned about flooding issues and land management". Councillors making the decision received a report from the Environment Agency stating that they had no objections to the application. Do you want to make any comments?
IT'S BEHIND YOU!
The HOLY CROSS CHURCH, West Cross produced for one night only on Sat. 17th January a panto, loosely based on the story of SINBAD. The Panto was written by Mrs. Ann Evans and entitled "Sinbad and the quest for the Golden Osprey". The report states that "it was a sellout"andmembers of the Clyne Chapel and Holy Cross had rehearsed for several weeks to produce a 'spectacular' production! The lead was taken by the Vicar of Llwynderw. See below some photos of this 'classic' performance.

LOOK OUT FOR THE NEXT PERFORMANCE IT'S BEFORE THEM!
THE PATH TO SUCCESS!
At last clean shoes are the order of the day for residents of Mayals who use the path from Llwynderw Drive into Fairwood Park. After many years of requesting a pathway to be upgraded, the City Council have carried out this work much to the delight of those who use this pathway.
LOCAL SPORTS NEWS
It has been reported that Tommy Heydon (son of the Mumbles C.C.Clerk) has been selected to play table tennis for Wales in a Four Nations competition being held on 23rd Januray 2009. We wish him good luck!
