DOUBLE BUBBLE.

THIS IS THE HEADING UNDER 'WE SAY' IN THE SOUTH WALES

EVENING POST EDITORIAL SECTION.

"COMMUNITY councils haven't always had a good press in this newspaper - indeed, we have pondered whether one or two of them are worth their precept.

But credit where credit is due, councillors in Mumbles have achieved that double whammy of providing a good service for taxpayers while keeping costs down in a timely reaction to the downturn.

The contribution residents make to the village's community council bill will be cut by 40 per cent in April, saving more than £40,000. All that - and the Navy Days Festival is back. Good going.

PRAISE INDEED FROM AN EXCELLENT LOCAL NEWSPAPER!

GRANGE PRIMARY SCHOOL

WE WOULD LIKE TO PASS ON OUR CONGRATULATIONS TO THE STUDENTS AND TEACHING STAFF OF GRANGE PRIMARY SCHOOL ON ACHIEVING SEVEN GRADE ONE MARKS FROM THE ESTYN INSPECTORS.

The report, by inspector Carolyn Jane Thomas, highlighted the achievements and the exceptional quality of teaching in all subject areas.

52 per cent of the lessons inspected were awarded the top grade one, and 48 per cent were given grade two.

The headteacher, Nicky Martell, said "she was delighted and extremely proud to be headteacher at Grange primary and leading a team of hardworking dedicated and talented staff." She went on to say "she was privileged to to be working with such lovely children and supported by highly motivated governors and the inspection report shows that our parents clearly appreciate the many outstanding features which make Grange primary such a wonderful school."

The school was given extra praise by the inspectors who found a large number of "outstanding features" in its education provision, including the quality of teaching in the unit for pupils with hearing difficulties.

Swansea Council's cabinet member for education, Mike day, added " This really is an outstanding inspection report".

NEW TRAM SYSTEM FOR SWANSEA BAY!

Please let us have your views.

The Editorial in the S.W. Evening Post " On the wrong track" 18th Feb 09.

Part quote " Last week when the idea was mooted, the Post questioned the thinking behind the enthusiasm for building a tram system in Swansea.

Apart from the nostalgic desire to bring back the old Mumbles train we couldn't fathom what benefits it would bring.

On the (very steep) downside it would cost hundreds of millions of pounds, the disruption caused by building it would dwarf the work that has been done for the Metro (bendybus), and trams can only go where their rails lead them"

"This newspaper is all for public transport, but in which way is a tram better than a bus? It would be far better, and cheaper, to look at why there is no circular bus service that links High St. Station, The Kingsway,' Civic Centre/Guildhall' (my insert), Singleton Hospital, Sketty Cross and Uplands."

My comment would be - What about a Trolley Bus system, no rails and DON'T FORGET MUMBLES!!!
