(EDITOR CLLR. JOHN BEACH) PRODUCED FOR MUMBLES COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Visit by Glasgow Students to Mumbles
Parties of students from the Geography and Earth Sciences department of Glasgow University, have again visited Mumbles Local History Centre at Ty Hanes, during their field studiesin theMumbles area.
These second year students designed their own research, assisted by some of the resources at the history centre. They had informal discussions with Wendy Cope and John & Carol Powell on a 'question and answer' basis, discovering the impact of changes on the Mumbles area, with emphasis on the role of local history in creating a 'sense of community' and a 'sense of place' in Mumbles. They studied the influence on the locality of the demise of the oyster and quarrying industries and the rise of tourism during the Victorian era. Also the work of Oystermouth Historical Association & Mumbles Development Trust, how the history centre came into being and why we do what we do. They finished by looking at the possible trends of Mumbles in the future.

MUMBLES IN BLOOM COMPETITION
This year Mumbles in Bloom was launched on 31st March.
We decided to put in an extra category for "First time Entry" to encourage the residents of Mumbles to enter the competition. Last year, as they toured the district, the judges were disappointed to see so many beautiful gardens and displays outside commercial premises, which had not been entered.
Mumbles Community Council invite all keen gardeners to make
Mumbles a feast for the eyes and enter Mumbles in Bloom this year.
Judging will take place on 12th July.
Closing date for entering the competition will be 28th June.
Our judges again will be Ian Scott and Steve Prothero. This is the advice they give. “Pots and hanging baskets should be planted in such a way as to
fill the container and cascade over the sides. To give the appearance of a ball, so to speak.
”
"When we look at gardens we consider whether the plants are nourished, watered and dead headed, as well as looking at the floral display."
Our social event and prize giving will take place on10th September. All who enter will be invited and we look forward to seeing all keen gardeners at that event.
To enter Mumbles in Bloom 2008 Simply fill in the entry form and send it in to us.
This competition is free to enter and is open to everyone in the Mumbles Wards
CLOSING DATE FOR ENTRIES IS 28th JUNE 2008 - JUDGING WILL

Subject: Names in your Cell Phone BEWARE
Be careful how you list names on your cell phone. A lady has changed her
habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was
stolen. Her handbag which contained her mobile, Credit card, purse...etc....
was stolen. 20 minutes later when she called her husband, from a pay phone
telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I've Just received your text
asking about our Pin number and I've replied a little while ago.'
When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money
was already withdrawn. The pickpocket had actually used the stolen hand
phone to text 'hubby' in the contact list and got hold of the pin number.
Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from the bank account.
Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact
list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, sweetheart, Dad, Mom
etc....... And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through
texts, CONFIRM by calling back. Also, when you're being texted by friends or
family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the
message came from them. If you don't reach them, be very careful about
going places to meet 'family and friends' who text you .. Kids should also be
made aware of this.
